The Bras d’Or Lakes and Watershed Interpretive Centre was sponsored by the Bras d’Or Preservation Nature Trust, and operated as a popular tourist stop from 2002 to 2013.
The exhibit “Explore the Bras d’Or” was displayed in the Old Post Office in Baddeck. The Board of Directors for the Interpretive Centre had to make the decision in 2014 to close its doors after welcoming over 50,000 visitors to view the exhibit. The Centre had been operating without funding support for many years and could no longer afford to rent the space to display the exhibit.
The Board of Directors also acknowledged that after 13 years of service, the technology and media in the exhibit had become dated. Although sad to have to close the Interpretive Centre for now, we are hopeful that greater funding and community support may allow the Centre to create and display a new exhibit in the future that will continue to educate and inform visitors and citizens about the amazing Bras d’Or Lakes ecosystem and why the preservation of this area is so important.
The Bras d’Or Preservation Nature Trust and Bras d’Or Lakes Watershed Interpretive Centre continue to operate as volunteer run organizations. If you would like to help enable us to continue with our work to educate
