Making a donation of ecologically or culturally important land within the Bras d’Or watershed is a wonderful way to leave a lasting conservation legacy for future generations. A land donation may be a consideration for people who:

  • have no one to pass the land on to;
  • are no longer able to or wishing to maintain the land;
  • would like to reduce their tax burden; and/or
  • wish to see their special property preserved forever.

While the mandate of the Bras d’Or Preservation Nature Trust is to preserve ecologically and culturally significant land within the Bras d’Or watershed on Cape Breton Island, a donation including residential or commercial property may be accepted with the understanding that it may be sold to help the organization pursue its mandate further.

Donations of land are eligible to receive a tax receipt for the fair market value of the land.

The Bras d’Or Preservation Nature Trust can help arrange a land donation that is fitting for your situation. Please contact us to learn more about the process.

Charitable Bequests

A charitable bequest is simply a distribution from your estate to a charitable organization through your last will and testament. The Bras d’Or Preservation Nature Trust recommends that your discuss your intentions with us if you are considering making a bequest of property, to ensure we are able to receive your gift and that your wishes are fulfilled.
